Broken Blade Cover Reveal and Excerpt

Here’s the fabulous cover for Broken Blade by J.C. Daniels. I simply love that cover. I’m so looking forward to this release. Broken Blade releases January 2014.

Broken Blade blurb:

Kit Colbana: assassin, thief, investigator extraordinaire. Now broken. She always expected her past to catch up with her but never like this. Haunted by nightmares and stripped of her identity, she’s retreated to Wolf Haven, the no-man’s land where she found refuge years before. But while she might want to hide away from the rest of the world, the rest of the world isn’t taking the hint.

Dragged kicking and screaming back into life, Kit is thrust head-first into an investigation surrounding the theft of an ancient relic…one that she wants nothing to do with. Her instincts tell her it’s a bad idea to just leave the relic lying about, but finding it might be just as bad.

Forced to face her nightmares, she uncovers hidden strength and comes face to face with one of the world’s original monsters.

If she survives the job, she won’t be the same…and neither will those closest to her.

Broken Blade excerpt:

I knew the weight of a weapon in my hand.

Even at sixteen, broken, battered and bloodied. I knew what it was to hold a weapon and realize that I had to fight or be destroyed.

Those last moments were nothing but a blur, but it was a blur of silver and blade and blood.

I left the guards dead in the snow, taking their packs and fleeing into the night, certain my grandmother would seek me out. And all the while as I ran, the blade had whispered to me. I am here now. I am here…

Reaching out, I touched her hilt and drew her from the sheath and stared at the gleaming, liquid length of silver.

“You’re not here now.”

If ever there had been a time when I needed her, it had been when I was trapped up on that mountain. Broken, desperate.

But she hadn’t answered my call.

And she couldn’t come to my hand now, either.

Stroking my fingers down the blade, I closed my eyes…and wished.

Then I turned back to my weapons trunk and went about getting myself ready.

Just what did you take to the party when you were dealing with some ancient, psychotic evil who unleashed holy hell just for the fun of it?

Night Blade by J.C. Daniels is Now Available

Book 2 in Colbana Files, Urban Fantasy

Available at       Kindle      Nook

Kit Colbana is always biting off more than she can chew. She has a knack for finding trouble. This time, though, trouble finds her. Someone from her past drops a case into her lap that she just can’t refuse…literally. People on the Council are dying left and right and she’s been requested to investigate the deaths. The number one suspect? Her lover, Damon. If she doesn’t clear his name, he gets a death sentence. Even if she succeeds? They still might try to execute him. Oh, and she’s not allowed to tell him about the case, either. The stakes are high this time around, higher than they’ve ever been. Kit may be forced to pay the ultimate price to save her lover’s life…a price that could destroy her and everything she loves.

Review Blade Song by J.C. Daniels – A Recommended Read

Blade Song is my first reading venture into Urban Fantasy and I loved it! I couldn’t get enough. As soon as I finished the book, I wanted the next one in the series. Unfortunately, Night Blade isn’t out yet.
Blade Song is written in first person from Kit’s point of view. Kit is a kickass heroine who is still discovering what the magic within her can do. She has issues that she’s working through while doing a job for the local alpha shapeshifters. A job she really doesn’t want to do but has to or she’s dead. I loved Kit because I felt like I could relate to her even though she lives in a world with magic and shapeshifters.
Kit calls Damion an asshole throughout the book. I whole heartily agreed with her in the beginning. Gradually, Damion changed and won me over. Not an easy thing to do without the benefit of his point of view. By the end, I loved him.
While Blade Song isn’t a romance, the romantic thread between Kit and Damon was enough for me (a person who rarely reads a fiction book that isn’t a romance). I’m curious to see where the relationship between Kit and Damon will head in future books.
I recommend this book to any reader especially romance reader who wants to venture into Urban Fantasy. A worthwhile read that will leave you wanting more.
5 Stars – A Must Read (a book I will definitely read again)

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.
So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.
Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.
If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…
